Andreas K. Westmark is a Danish film composer and musician currently based in Copenhagen.
The first short he scored (‘In The Soil’ by Casper Rudolf) had its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival 2021, nominated for a Palm d’Or. The score was nominated for an EKKO Shortlist award in 2022. In the years that followed, he has composed original scores for feature-length documentaries, a fiction feature, animation, and numerous short films, including the Cannes nominated short ‘Maybe in March’ (2025) by Mikkel Kehlert and the upcoming Swedish fiction feature ‘Nipster’ (2026) by Sunniva Eir Tangvik Kveum, while simultaneously finishing his Bachelor in Sound Design (Sonic College), exchange to the Netherlands studying composition and a Master in Film Composition (The Conservatory of Southern Denmark / The National Film School of Denmark) In Andreas' work, acoustic and electronic textures are closely intertwined. Guided by curiosity and open-mindedness, he approaches each project and director with thoughtful experimentation shaped by the story and its themes. Recording sounds on set to use as compositional material, tracking down unusual instruments and instrumentalists or playing the main theme with the sound of a screaming faucet - when it comes to scoring, Andreas is drawn to the creative paths less travelled. Fishing for happy accidents, and looking for harmony in noise and noise in harmony - all in service of creating a score inseparable from the tone and atmosphere of the film. Besides the director, he values close collaboration with the editor, sound designer and other key creative roles when the project allows it. Furthermore, he has vast experience writing, recording and touring with several bands as a musician and songwriter in both Europe and Russia, playing string instruments, keys, electronics and singing at festivals like Roskilde Festival, Eurosonic Noorderslag, Rencontres Trans Musicalles and many more. Latest band release was the album ‘Control Your Soul’s Desire For Freedom’ by Heathe (2025), which was picked as #1 Danish album in 2025 by major Danish newspaper Information. He also created original music for the modern dance piece ‘THE WATCHERS’ by acclaimed choreographer Dorotea Saykaly, performed by Danish Dance Theater in 2023. |
