Filip Bagewitz is a musician, composer and occasional stop motion animator based in Gothenburg. He is a singer and a multi-instrumentalist, specialized in the Middle Eastern lute oud. In 2013 he graduated in world music at the University of Gothenburg and in 2022 in film composition at the University of Inland Norway. Known for his unique voice, his social commitment and his wide range of expressions, he is equally at home playing arabic maqam on his oud, writing a string quartet or singing rowdy protest songs.
Throughout the years Filip has performed extensively all over Europe, both as an oud soloist and as a member of several bands. He is perhaps most well known as the lead singer and creative force behind the left wing swing collective Cats and Dinosaurs, who has gained a worldwide following with their punk inflected jazz, politically charged lyrics and infectious joy. Their songs can be heard in protest marches all over Sweden, and has also been featured on several radio shows as well as the Swedish version of Married At First Sight. Filip has released 11 full lengths albums and several EPs, most recently Cats and Dinosaurs’ much acclaimed fifth album “Sabotage”. Since 2021 Filip also works as a film composer, and has scored a large number of short films. During 2025 he finished the score for his first feature film, the dystopian sci-fi comedy The Whole Picture by director Monika Wahlgren, set to be released in 2026. As a film composer Filip has developed an organic and intimate sound, working both with acoustic instruments and electronics. He loves working closely with the film makers, always searching for the perfect tone that makes the story come alive. |
