Kjartan Holm ICELAND

Kjartan Holm is an Icelandic composer, musician, and sound artist whose work spans contemporary composition, film and television, theatre, installation, and experimental sound design. His practice explores the meeting point between acoustic and electronic sound, often focusing on texture, atmosphere, and the physical and emotional qualities of sound.
A founding member of the Icelandic post-rock band For a Minor Reflection, Kjartan has toured internationally and performed alongside artists including Sigur Rós. His work as a composer has since expanded across a wide range of disciplines, with music for film and television including Circe (2015), Verbúðin (2022), Horizon (2023), and Before We Forget (2025). Kjartan is also a member of the Reykjavík-based art collective Fischersund, where he works closely with Jónsi and Sindri Már Sigfússon (Sin Fang) on music, sound, and multisensory projects. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with artists and composers including Jóhann Jóhannsson, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Ólafur Arnalds, and Daníel Bjarnason. With a background in composition from the Iceland University of the Arts, Kjartan’s work moves between traditional composition and experimental approaches to sound. His recent practice has increasingly explored immersive and multisensory experiences, investigating how music can interact with space, nature, visual art, touch, scent, and other forms of sensory perception. |
