Levin began his compositional journey in the 1990s, composing contemporary classical music for orchestras as well as theatre productions. After the turn of the millennium, he transitioned into writing music for contemporary dance and during the past decade he has been deeply involved in composing music for film.
Since 2013 he has been collaborating with Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Nima Sarvestani. His latest film ”Surviving the Death Committee” will premiere on March 7 at the Tempo Film Festival in Stockholm. Most recently, he co-composed the score for Giovanni Bucchieri’s ”100 Seasons” (2024), which was nominated for a Guldbagge Award. His upcoming premieres in spring 2025 include the biographical film ”Being Bo Widerberg”, directed by Mattias Nohrborg and Jon Asp. A recurring collaboration is with Swedish artist and director Anna Odell including her films The Reunion (2013) and XXY (2018) In addition to his work in film, Stefan has composed numerous contemporary dance scores, performed worldwide by renowned companies such as the Royal Swedish Ballet, Danish Dance Theatre, Acosta Danza, Hessisches Staatsballett. As a multi-instrumentalist, with a strong network of top musicians and a well-equipped studio, he ensures a creative and efficient workflow. Levin is particularly interested in working on biographical films and documentaries that explore human rights themes. |
