Viktor Orri Árnason is an Icelandic composer, conductor, and producer recognized for his innovative fusion of orchestral writing, contemporary production, and emotional storytelling. A graduate from the Iceland University of the Arts and the Hanns Eisler Academy in Berlin, he has established himself as a versatile figure in modern film and media composition.
Viktor’s work spans Academy Award– and BAFTA-winning projects including Joker and Broadchurch, alongside collaborations with leading composers such as Jóhann Jóhannsson, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Hauschka, and Ólafur Arnalds. Viktor’s solo and collaborative releases—among them VAST (Bedroom Community) and Eilífur (PENTATONE)—further display his mastery of merging acoustic performance with immersive sound design. His collaborative album Poems, with soprano Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir, was released on Deutsche Grammophon and then expanded into the acclaimed feature documentary Poems: A Journey into Icelandic Poetry (Stage+). Recent highlights include composing RITUAL, premiered by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and featuring Yo-Yo Ma at the 2024 Arctic Circle Conference, from whichEarth Hymn was released in October 2025. As artistic director and conductor of the Reykjavík Orkestra, Viktor leads projects for international film, television, and interactive media. His distinctive voice continues to shape the sound of contemporary cinema through bold, emotionally resonant, and sonically intricate work, includic soundtracks for award-winning series The Empress and Frozen Planet II. |
