Only three Danish films have sold more than 1 million theatre tickets: Bent has scored all three, and he scored the most successful Norwegian film of all time, “Pinchcliffe Grand Prix”. A theme, which is arguably the most beloved film theme in Norway.
His theme tune from “Omkring et Flygel”, titled “Alley Cat” won him a Grammy in 1964. Along with the themes from “Olsen Banden” and “Matador” it shows us that great film-music truly transcends the composer. This music is now a deeply integrated part of Danish culture history.
Despite the fact that Bent has scored well over 70 feature films/TV series, he has managed to give his music a feel and sound that makes it instantly recognizable, which is also part of the reason that he is held in so high esteem.
At the age of 92 he remains active as a film composer - The Guiness Book of Records is looking into the possibility of adding him as the oldest active film composer in the World.
The Danish jury believes that Bent Fabricius-Bjerre would be a well-deserving winner of the HARPY prize, as he has led the way for many Danish film composers, and taught them, not only how to write incredible music, but also that music and business doesn’t have to be two different entities.
