14.00 - 15.00 CET Post-Screenings Conversation with an Agent Discussion moderated by Thor Joachim Haga NORDISCHE BOTSCHAFTEN AUDITORIUM WHAT DID WE HEAR? and how did it correspond with what we watched? Also, WHAT IS THE REALISTIC NEXT STEP IN A FILM COMPOSER's CAREER TODAY? An agent, and member of the HARPA jury, is lending us his ear and thoughts about the nominated music and interacts with the audience to dive together into the challenging world of film & media composers within the current entertainment industry's norms. George Christopoulos has been a film and film music enthusiast for more than a decade, but he decided to become a talent agent after touching base with Shigeru Umebayashi (a.k.a. Ume, composer of "In the Mood for Love") back in 2005, who - as Ume himself stated - "has been the first European who ever contacted me". In 2010 George Christopoulos founded OTICONS, a talent agency for film composers. It operates globally and representing more than 25 film music composers of more than 15 different nationalities it specializes in facilitating international co-productions. Music in film should feel inevitable, not just functional. A film composer should go deep, in order to ideally accompany a director's vision and storytelling language. MUSICAL PERFORMANCE BY MATTI BYE (SWEDEN)
Bye has been best known as one of Sweden’s most sought-after film composers, working on scores not only for contemporary but also vintage silent movies. In 2014 he received two of the three nominations for Best Original Music Award at Sweden’s prestigious Guldbaggen – his soundtrack for Faro took the honour (as well as a Nordic Film Music Prize) ahead of his work for The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window And Disappeared. He’s also provided new music for, among others, Victor Sjöström’s seminal horror The Phantom Carriage (1921) and The Saga of Gosta Berling (1924), a landmark melodrama starring Greta Garbo. He’s recorded a number of solo works, too, not least, 2013’s Bethanien and 2017´s This Forgotten Land. Bethanien was inspired by a two-year sojourn in Berlin working in Kreuzberg’s cultural centre of the same name, once a hospital of suitably grim repute. Collaborations with other musicians include Hydra’s Dream, with Anna Von Hausswolff; Maailma, with cult Finnish songwriter Lau Nau; Mambo Noir Trio and his ensemble The Matti Bye Ensemble. MUSICAL PERFORMANCE BY HANNE HUKKELBERG (NORWAY)
Hukkelberg began singing and playing at the age of three – picking up the piano, guitar and drums, alongside countless other noisemaking oddities. Hukkelberg makes intimate, idiosyncratic music, combining a stylistic range of music with a predilection for unusual sounds and a stunning, versatile voice that has garnered comparisons to Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell and Björk. Since 2003 Hukkelberg has released numerous works: Cast Anchor EP (2003), Little Things (2005), Rykestrasse 68(2006), which won a Spellemannsprisen, Norwegian Grammy. Subsequent albums, Blood From A Stone (2009) and Featherbrain(2012) were released to similar acclaim, resulting in extensive UK/EU/US touring and dates alongside Wilco, Andrew Bird and José González. Her self-produced album 'Trust' (2017), her most assured and accomplished work to date. It features singles The Whip (feat. Ingrid Håvik from Highasakite ), ‘IRL’ and Embroidery (feat. Emilie Nicolas). Over the last decade Hanne Hukkelberg has scored the music for several TV Series, shorts and documentaries. Latest Sofia Haugans ‘Røverdatter.’ IMDB & WEBPAGE |
DJ PERFORMANCE BY GISLE MARTINS MEYER (NORWAY)
Gisle Martens Meyer is a Norwegian media artist. His work for stage, screen and new media is closely integrated with – and dealing with the challenges of – new technology, social media and digital culture. Questions are raised in a surreal, quirky and playful aesthetic, where apparent naive escapism glides on the surface of serious, contemporary undercurrents. Since 2007 he has worked on several large projects for Norwegian national broadcaster NRK, composing music for TV-series and programme vignettes, in addition to numerous single productions for clients within film, TV, theatre, art, computer games, installations, dance performances. Recent major works include music for SONY’s Little Big Planet series, the awardawardwinning Pushwagner documentary, and music for Norwegian TV-series Expedition Nansen, Kometkameratene and Barnas Supershow. At the HARPA afterparty Gisle Martins Meyer will DJ with music from Nordic Film and TV IMDB & WEBPAGE |
