Davíð Þór Jónsson - Harpa nominated 2019 for his score for Benedikt Erlingsson Woman at war / Kona fer í stríð
The score of David Thor plays an important and original part in Benedikt Erlingsson´s movie "Woman at war". David Thor reinvents the classical Greek Chorus of Euripides and Sophocles and gives it a relevant and poignant role which becomes an essential and emotional part of the narrative structure of the film. The mix of accordion, piano, trumpet and tuba is performed by a cast of recurring characters as well as by an Ukrainian singing trio that appear in key moments on screen as melodic commentators or fellow conspirators or sympathetic bystanders and pierce through the fourth wall in an unexpected way. Together with the fact that Halla´s (the leading character) profession as a choir instructor, the score asserts itself as a central role of the film in a rarely seen, let alone heard, way.
