Hildur Guðnadóttir ICELAND

Hildur Guðnadottir Harpa nominated 2017 for her score for Baltasar Kormákurs feature film EIÐURINN (The Oath)

Nomination text:

Hildur Guðnadóttir comes from one of Iceland´s most beloved musical families. It is no secret that she has obviously inherited great musicality from both her parents, but more importantly she intensely studied, practised and sharpened her compositional and musical skills  for many years before starting her flourishing career in film music.
Her command of her key instrument, the cello, as well as her voice, also make her a rare combination of a brilliiant film composer and an outstanding musical performer.
Her score for Baltasar Kormákur´s film The Oath has been hailed as a major success, complementing every scene with a confident vision of  the correct angles and moods, thus serving the film perfectly.
Her very modern sense, combined with her classical background, makes for a rare outcome in this most outstanding score of the year in Icelandic filmmaking. At a reasonably young age she has, with her score to The Oath, created an identity which is both original and stylish. This reflects perfectly  what this modern day suspense thriller is all about.
The Icelandic Jury was in no doubt when it came time to nominate the Icelandic Film Composer of the Year:  All the votes for the Score of the Year went to the immensely talented young female film composer, Hildur Guðnadóttir for her smashing score to Baltasar Kormákur´s  The Oath.

“The HBO series stunning success owes much to Guðnadóttir’s evocative score, as discomfiting as the tragic history or malevolence on screen.” – Sydney Morning Herald
