Karl Seglem is described as one of the most exciting contemporary tenor saxophonists, goat horn players and composers in Norway. This country has spawned quite a plethora of distinctive musicians that have made it their enterprise to merge musical traditions, often from their respective homesteads, with contemporary expressions, world music and improvisational jazz. Karl Seglem looms prominently among these and he is unquestionably one of the great innovators and visionaries of Norwegian music; reinvigorating both Norwegian traditional genres and jazz with his unwavering will to fuse expressions, pursue crossover ventures and embrace new instruments, sounds and perspectives.
Karl Seglem is an acclaimed Norwegian jazz star and have created his own identity, fusing the sound of his tenorsax and goat horns with the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle. Out comes bursting power and beautiful melodies, jazz, electronics. Seglem is inspired by life and nature in Scandinavia.The result is totally unique.This isn’t Norwegian music per se. It’s a trans-global sound machine. Since in the early 90s he has developed his sound, and now it´s a unique, electric and improvisational sound-jar, a new approach, Norwegian WorldJazz. His many recordings and releases (39 albums) sounds fresh, new, powerful and contemporary alive. His music is one of a kind. |
