Kristin Norderval NORWAY

Kristin Norderval is a classically trained composer and singer based in Oslo who composes and performs music for concert, stage, installations and film. Her first full-length opera – The Trials of Patricia Isasa - won Quebec´s 2016 OPUS prize in two categories: Best production in Montreal, and Best contemporary music. Her solo CD – Aural Histories (post-ambient arias for voice and electronics) – was listed by The New Yorker’s classical music critic Alex Ross as one of “Ten Notable Classical Music Recordings of 2012”. Recordings of her music are also featured on Deep Listening, Koch International, Everglade, Losen Records and BIS.

Norderval has created works for numerous festivals and ensembles, among them the Ultima Festival (Oslo), Den Anden Opera (Copenhagen), jill sigman/thinkdance (New York) and the Parthenia viol consort (New York). Her credits as a soprano soloist include performances with the Oslo Sinfonietta, Philip Glass Ensemble, Netherlands Dance Theater, San Francisco Symphony, and on numerous recordings of contemporary composers´ vocal works.

Independent filmmakers have used Kristin Norderval´s evocative music in dance films, documentaries, and shorts. Her music was also featured in the full length animated feature film God in the Machine by Kathleen Harty. Kristin works with electronic sounds as well as her voice to create music that references both machine and human elements. Inclusion of ambient sound and real-time sampling and audio processing are trademarks in Kristin´s music.
