Matilda Bådagård och Maja Långbacka SWEDEN
“Succeeding in their aim to search for a new path must be considered a great deed. Incredibly impressive that they sound like no one else.“ (Review) ”A goldstar for the musical geniuses Långbacka/Bådagård for making film music that makes me want to go buy the soundtrack on vinyl right away.” (Film critic, Swedish television)Paragraph. |
Matilda Bådagård and Maja Långbacka are both acknowledged singers, multi-instrumentalists and composers. With a solid musical foundation in both jazz and classical music, they are also highly rooted in Swedish traditional music. Their collaboration started in 2017, when they decided to ”lock themselves into the studio” for a year, with no interference from others, exploring what their collaborate sound would be if they composed intuitively and without setting up boundaries for what would be the outcome. The result was their debut album Wake us up, released in 2018, that created quite a buzz in Sweden for it’s unique blend of pop and traditional music. Since then, the duo has toured intensively in Sweden, Norway and Finland and in 2020 their second album came out. The music from their albums has featured in TV series, vlogs and audio books productions, and has been described as ”the soundtrack of a fairy tale”. Matilda Bådagård and Maja Långbacka have individually worked as composers and producers for theatre, cirkus shows and commercials and together they started scoring films. In 2021 they scored their first major feature film GLACIÄR by world famous Swedish author Camilla Läckberg and director Baker Karim. The unique sounding score draw a lot of attention, both from the audience and from the film industry for sounding different from many film scores. The duo composed, produced and recorded the soundtrack, as well as played all the instruments it involved. The idea was to create a minimalistic, raw tone and a feeling of solitude, using mainly strings and their own voices, complementing with organic sounds that gave the impression of not knowing where the music ends and where the sound design begins. The music has a Nordic feel to it, but also plays around with orchestral, classical, soundscapes with a twist. Bådagård and Långbacka have a faiblesse for organic sounds, overtones and unique instruments, and are always experimenting in the studio, pushing boundaries for how for example a piano, or a violin, could sound like. The duo is currently working on a Swedish documentary, where they experiment with the blending of traditional fiddle playing and analogue synthesisers. For each new film project, Matilda Bådagård and Maja Långbacka, are trying to evolve, find the sound that is unique for that specific story. With their broad experience as both musicians and composers, they have developed an effective and intuitive way of composing together, as well as collaborating with a director, making sure his/her film is being highlighted in the best way possible. |
