Ola Fløttum NORWAY
HARPA nominated in 2024 for his score for Ole Giæver's "Let The River Flow"
Ellos eatnu – Let the River Flow circles around a young woman undergoing major changes. Ola Fløttum's music guides the audience in this complex process. His compositions enhance the temperature and colors of the film, allowing us to become one with the protagonist's emotions. The music is never melodramatically insistent, although it's almost omnipresent in both strength and frequency, and thus an important part of the cinema experience; it's significant without being overpowering. This balance act impressed the jury, who will also highlight Fløttum's exquisite use of electronic instruments. National Jury: Composer Irene Tillung , Composer Kenneth Ishak and Filmcritic Lars Ole Kristiansen. |

HARPA nominated 2019 for his score for Joachim Triers THELMA
THELMA is a supernatural drama by renowned Norwegian director Joachim Trier, and the 4th feature film collaboration with composer Ola Fløttum. The film delves into the troubled psyche of young girl Thelma as she comes to terms with her own identity, sexuality and paranormal powers – both poetic and operatic in execution. Fløttum mirrors Thelma's dilemmas by utilizing a dynamic soundscape ranging from dark, low-register brass to high-pitched string and synth harmonies throughout, while also pointing towards her dark destiny. Slowmoving, ethereal and at times foreboding in tone, it becomes its own character through complex thematic development. THELMA is an impressive (and rare) example of a score providing a totally immersive presence in a film’s fictional universe. |
13 movies, 4 documentaries and 6 short movies, including several activities as a composer, touring musician and vocalist.
